Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta

Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta is one of those cozy, comforting dishes that feels like a warm hug on a plate. It’s creamy, cheesy, packed with flavor, and so easy to make that it practically cooks itself. With just a few staple ingredients—think tender chicken breasts, rich garlic parmesan sauce, and a swirl of perfectly cooked pasta—you’ll have a family-friendly dinner that tastes like it took hours, even though it only took minutes of hands-on time. Whether you’re feeding picky eaters, hosting a casual dinner night, or just looking to avoid spending your whole evening at the stove, this slow cooker pasta dish has your back.

I still remember the first time I made this recipe. It was during one of those weeks when everything felt a little chaotic—work was busy, the laundry pile was high, and I just didn’t have the energy to stand in the kitchen after 6 PM. I’d heard the buzz around a viral TikTok version of Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta, and I had a bottle of Buffalo Wild Wings Garlic Parmesan sauce sitting in the pantry, waiting for its moment. With a little skepticism and a whole lot of hunger, I dumped everything into the slow cooker, crossed my fingers, and let it do its thing.

By dinnertime, the kitchen smelled like cheesy, garlicky heaven. The chicken was so tender it practically shredded itself, and once I stirred in the pasta, it turned into the creamiest, most satisfying meal I’d had in weeks. And just like that, this dish became a permanent part of my weeknight dinner rotation. Now I make it whenever I need something easy, comforting, and guaranteed to bring everyone to the table with a smile.

The best part? It’s incredibly versatile. You can use different types of pasta, sneak in some extra veggies, or even swap the slow cooker for a quick stovetop version if you’re short on time. Plus, it reheats beautifully, so it’s perfect for meal prepping or next-day lunches.

Let’s dive into exactly why you’ll love this recipe—and then I’ll walk you through every single step to help you nail it on your first try.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

There are so many reasons why this Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta is a recipe you’ll want to keep in your back pocket. It checks all the boxes when it comes to flavor, ease, and crowd-pleasing power. Whether you’re cooking for your family, meal-prepping for the week, or just need something that practically makes itself, this dish is here to save the day.

First and foremost, let’s talk about the flavor. The Buffalo Wild Wings Garlic Parmesan sauce is the real star here. It’s rich, garlicky, and slightly tangy with a smooth parmesan kick that takes this pasta from good to unforgettable. The sauce gets mellowed out with milk and cream cheese, creating a velvety texture that clings to every bite of pasta. The addition of shredded parmesan cheese adds that irresistible salty finish we all love in creamy pasta dishes.

Then there’s the chicken. Slow-cooked until fork-tender, the chicken breasts soak up all that garlicky sauce as they cook, becoming juicy and full of flavor. Once shredded and mixed back into the sauce, they create the ultimate creamy protein boost. You get that melt-in-your-mouth texture that only slow cooking can achieve.

This recipe is also incredibly easy. It’s a true dump-and-go situation: you just toss the ingredients into the crockpot, let them simmer away, and come back a few hours later to finish things off with pasta. No browning, sautéing, or babysitting required. If you’re working from home or running errands, this meal practically makes itself.

It’s also extremely family-friendly. Kids love the creamy, cheesy flavor, and adults appreciate how satisfying and filling it is. If you’ve got picky eaters in the house, this dish is a no-brainer. Plus, it’s easy to customize with your favorite pasta shapes, add-ins like spinach or mushrooms, or even a little red pepper flake for those who like it spicy.

Another big bonus? It’s great for leftovers. In fact, some say it tastes even better the next day after the flavors have had time to meld. Pack it for lunch, serve it with a side salad for round two, or freeze it for a future meal when you don’t feel like cooking.

Lastly, this dish is perfect for those nights when you just want comfort food without the fuss. It’s hearty, satisfying, and guaranteed to leave everyone asking for seconds.

Health Benefits

While Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta is undeniably indulgent and creamy, it still offers some nutritional value that makes it a balanced, satisfying meal—especially with a few smart tweaks or additions.

First, let’s talk about the protein. Chicken breasts are a lean source of protein, and in this dish, they’re the backbone of your meal. Protein is essential for building and repairing muscle, keeping you full longer, and supporting your immune system. Because the chicken is slow-cooked and shredded into the sauce, every bite of pasta gets infused with flavorful, protein-rich chicken, which helps keep the dish balanced.

The garlic in the Parmesan Garlic sauce brings more than just flavor—it’s also known for its potential health benefits. Garlic contains compounds that can support heart health, reduce blood pressure, and even help strengthen your immune system. While it’s used here in a creamy, cheesy context, you’re still getting some of those natural benefits.

Parmesan cheese, while rich, also contains protein and calcium, which are important for bone health and muscle function. If you use a modest amount and balance it with other nutrient-rich ingredients, it can be part of a healthy diet.

You can easily boost the fiber and nutrient content of this dish by using whole grain or high-protein pasta instead of traditional white pasta. There are even chickpea or lentil-based pastas available now that add extra protein and fiber, which can help manage blood sugar levels and promote digestive health.

Adding vegetables is another great way to round out this dish. Stir in fresh spinach at the end of cooking for a dose of iron, vitamin C, and antioxidants. You could also toss in steamed broccoli, sautéed mushrooms, or roasted bell peppers to add color, flavor, and nutrients. These additions not only make the meal more balanced but also stretch it to serve more people.

Even the cream cheese and milk can be modified for a lighter version of the dish. Try using reduced-fat cream cheese or a dairy-free substitute if you’re looking to cut back on saturated fat. Low-fat or plant-based milk options can also work without sacrificing too much creaminess.

So while Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta is definitely comfort food, it doesn’t have to be a nutritional splurge. With a few thoughtful swaps and some added veggies, it becomes a well-rounded, satisfying meal that your body and taste buds will thank you for.

Preparation Time, Servings, and Nutritional Information

One of the best things about this recipe is how little hands-on time it requires. Once everything is in the slow cooker, your job is mostly done—just a quick stir at the end and a separate pot for the pasta.

Total Preparation Time:

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes

  • Cook Time: 3–4 hours on LOW or 2–3 hours on HIGH

  • Pasta Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: Approximately 3.5 to 4.5 hours depending on your crockpot setting

Servings: This recipe comfortably serves 6 people. You can stretch it even further if you add more pasta or serve it with a side salad or roasted veggies.

Nutritional Information (per serving, estimated):

  • Calories: 520

  • Protein: 36g

  • Carbohydrates: 35g

  • Fat: 24g

  • Saturated Fat: 10g

  • Fiber: 2g

These numbers will vary slightly based on the type of pasta you use, whether you add extra veggies, and the specific brands of ingredients. If you’re aiming for a lighter version, opt for reduced-fat dairy, whole grain pasta, or load it up with veggies to increase volume without adding too many calories.

This makes it a great option for meal prepping, especially if you want something that satisfies cravings but still fits into a balanced weekly menu. It’s indulgent without being over the top, and with the protein content from the chicken and cheese, you’ll stay full for hours.

Ingredients List

Here’s everything you need to make this Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta. Most of these are pantry staples or easy-to-find grocery store items, making this a great go-to recipe when you’re short on time or just need something comforting without a grocery haul.

Main Ingredients:

  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5–2 pounds total): These cook down beautifully in the slow cooker and shred easily once tender.

  • 1 bottle (12 oz) Buffalo Wild Wings Garlic Parmesan Sauce: This is the signature flavor of the dish. You can find it at most major grocery stores or online. If unavailable, a homemade or similar creamy garlic parmesan sauce can work.

  • 4 oz cream cheese, cubed (half a standard block): This adds rich, velvety texture to the sauce. You can use reduced-fat cream cheese if you want to lighten things up a bit.

  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2% preferred): Helps thin the sauce to the perfect creamy consistency while adding extra richness.

  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese: This enhances the savory, cheesy flavor. You can use more or less depending on your taste.

  • 12 to 16 oz rotini or penne pasta: These shapes work well to catch the creamy sauce in their spirals or tubes. You can use any pasta you prefer, including whole wheat or gluten-free options.

Optional Garnishes and Add-Ins:

  • Extra parmesan for topping: Because you can never have too much cheese.

  • Chopped fresh parsley: Adds a fresh pop of color and flavor.

  • Red pepper flakes: For those who like a bit of heat.

  • Fresh spinach: Stir in a few handfuls just before serving for a boost of greens.

  • Steamed broccoli or sautéed mushrooms: Optional veggie add-ins to bulk up the meal and sneak in some nutrients.

🔄 Step-by-Step Cooking Instructions

This is a true dump-and-go dinner, perfect for when life gets hectic and you just need dinner to happen. Let’s break this down with all the details, tips, and tricks to guarantee it comes out creamy, flavorful, and totally irresistible.

🥄 Step 1: Season and Layer the Chicken

What you’ll need:

  • 2–3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs, if preferred)

  • Salt and black pepper

Start by placing your chicken breasts directly into the bottom of your crockpot. You can use them whole—no need to cut them up, because we’ll shred them later after they’re juicy and tender.

Lightly season both sides with a bit of salt and pepper. Don’t go overboard—your sauce already packs a lot of flavor, so just a little seasoning here helps enhance the chicken without making it overly salty.

💡 Pro Tip: If your chicken breasts are large, you can slice them in half lengthwise so they cook a bit faster and more evenly.

🧄 Step 2: Add That Flavor Bomb Sauce

What you’ll need:

  • 1 full bottle (12 oz) Buffalo Wild Wings Parmesan Garlic Sauce

This is the flavor foundation of the dish. Pour the entire bottle of Parmesan Garlic Sauce over the seasoned chicken in the crockpot.

If you don’t have access to the Buffalo Wild Wings version, a homemade or store-brand garlic parmesan sauce works too. But honestly, that BWW sauce is unmatched—thick, tangy, creamy, and loaded with roasted garlic flavor.

🥛 Step 3: Add Milk for Creaminess

What you’ll need:

  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup milk (whole or 2%)

Here’s a smart trick: after you pour out the sauce, pour your milk into the now-empty bottle, put the cap back on, and give it a good shake. This gets all that leftover sauce clinging to the sides so you’re not wasting a drop of flavor.

Then, pour the milk mixture over the chicken and sauce in the crockpot.

💡 Why milk? It loosens up the sauce just enough to create that silky, creamy texture without thinning it too much.

🧀 Step 4: Add Cream Cheese and Parmesan

What you’ll need:

  • 4 oz (half a block) cream cheese

  • 1/2 cup shredded or grated parmesan cheese

Cube the cream cheese and scatter it around the crockpot. Sprinkle in the parmesan cheese and gently stir things around to coat the chicken a bit.

It won’t be perfectly mixed yet—that’s totally fine. As it cooks, everything will melt together into that dreamy, garlicky sauce we’re after.

💡 Low-fat cream cheese works fine here if you want to lighten things up a bit. Just don’t skip it—it’s key for that velvety texture.

⏲ Step 5: Cover and Cook

Settings:

  • HIGH for 2.5–3 hours

  • LOW for 4–5 hours

Pop the lid on your slow cooker and let it do its thing. This is the perfect time to take a break, run errands, or binge a few episodes of your favorite show.

About halfway through, you can lift the lid and give the sauce a gentle stir to help the cream cheese fully melt and blend, but this isn’t strictly necessary.

💡 Check for doneness: Chicken should shred easily with two forks and be fully cooked to an internal temp of 165°F.

🍗 Step 6: Shred the Chicken

Once the chicken is fully cooked, use two forks to shred it right in the crockpot. It should pull apart easily and mix naturally with the now-melted, cheesy garlic sauce.

If you want smaller pieces, chop the chicken on a cutting board and then stir it back in. Either way, you’ll be coating every strand in that glorious sauce.

🍝 Step 7: Boil the Pasta Separately

What you’ll need:

  • 12–16 oz pasta (rotini, penne, or your fave shape)

While the chicken finishes cooking or after it’s shredded, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook your pasta according to the package instructions. Drain it and set aside.

Why cook the pasta separately? Because cooking pasta in the slow cooker can make it gummy or mushy. Boiling it separately keeps everything al dente and perfectly textured.

💡 Want extra creamy pasta? Use just 12 oz instead of a full pound so the sauce stays rich and thick.

🥣 Step 8: Mix It All Together

Add your drained pasta to the crockpot and stir everything together until every noodle is coated in that luscious garlic parmesan sauce. Give it a quick taste—add a pinch more salt or parmesan if you want.

If the sauce seems too thick, a splash of milk will loosen it up.

✨ Optional Toppings

Sprinkle on extra parmesan, chopped parsley, or a dash of red pepper flakes if you like a little heat.

And there you have it—creamy, garlicky, cheesy pasta heaven!

🍽️ How to Serve

There are so many cozy, crowd-pleasing ways to serve this Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta—it’s practically a guaranteed family favorite. Whether you’re serving it straight from the slow cooker on a busy weeknight or dressing it up a little for a weekend dinner, here’s how to make it shine.

1. Keep It Classic

The most popular way to serve it? Just ladle a big spoonful into a bowl and go! This pasta is already a full meal, with tender chicken, creamy sauce, and satisfying carbs. It’s rich, hearty, and doesn’t really need much else.

2. Add a Fresh Element

Balance all that creamy richness with a crisp, simple side salad. Something like:

  • Arugula or spinach tossed with lemon vinaigrette

  • A classic Caesar salad

  • Chopped cucumber, tomato, and red onion salad with olive oil and lemon

The brightness of fresh greens cuts through the creamy sauce beautifully.

3. Pair With Garlic Bread or Rolls

Crusty bread is a must if you ask me. Use it to scoop up every bit of that sauce left on your plate. Try:

  • Homemade garlic knots

  • Soft dinner rolls

  • Toasted baguette slices brushed with garlic butter

4. Kid-Friendly Serving Ideas

This one’s a winner for picky eaters! Serve smaller portions of just the pasta and chicken (maybe skip the red pepper flakes) and offer grated cheese on the side so they can sprinkle their own.

You can also serve it over buttered noodles or rice for little ones who prefer simpler textures.

5. For Gatherings or Meal Prep

Serve directly from the slow cooker set to “warm” if you’re entertaining—add a spoon and let everyone help themselves buffet-style.

For meal prep, portion into containers and pair with a side of roasted veggies or salad for a balanced lunch or dinner.

🍷 Pairing Suggestions

Even though we’re skipping wine pairings to keep things halal, there are so many great drinks, sides, and add-ons that complement this creamy garlic parmesan pasta perfectly.

🥤 Beverage Pairings

You want something that balances the rich, cheesy sauce—something refreshing, light, and just a little tangy. Try:

  • Sparkling water with lemon or lime – Crisp and bubbly to cut through the richness.

  • Mint lemonade – A Middle Eastern twist that’s cooling and perfect for heavier dishes.

  • Cucumber lime soda – Super refreshing and adds a nice zing.

  • Iced hibiscus tea – Naturally tart and pairs beautifully with creamy dishes.

If you’re looking for something cozier in cooler weather:

  • Hot black tea with mint – Comforting and balances the richness.

  • A warm apple cider – Slightly sweet and spiced.

🧀 Side Dish Pairings

This dish is creamy and filling, so light and crisp sides are a great contrast. A few favorites:

  • Steamed broccoli or green beans – Keep them tender-crisp for texture contrast.

  • Roasted carrots or brussels sprouts – Add a caramelized, slightly sweet note.

  • Crispy potato wedges – Yes, carbs on carbs, but when it’s this good, who cares?

  • Cucumber-tomato salad with yogurt dressing – Fresh and creamy without being heavy.

🥖 Bread & Dipping Pairings

Because we all know this sauce is gold and needs to be scooped up:

  • Garlic naan – Soft, chewy, and perfect for sopping up sauce.

  • Turkish pide bread – Slightly fluffy and easy to tear.

  • Toasted pita triangles – Crisp edges, soft centers.

Mix and match depending on the vibe—cozy weeknight, potluck, or game-day crowd-pleaser.

❄️ Storage, Freezing & Reheating Instructions

This pasta is just as good (if not better) the next day, which makes it perfect for leftovers, meal prep, and freezing.

🧊 Storing Leftovers

Let everything cool to room temperature before storing.

  • Fridge: Store in an airtight container for up to 4–5 days.

  • Make sure the container is well-sealed to prevent the sauce from drying out.

💡 Helpful Tip: Store a splash of milk or broth alongside the pasta in your container—it helps with reheating later!

❄️ Freezing Instructions

You can freeze this dish, but because of the dairy (cream cheese and parmesan), the texture may change slightly upon reheating. That said, it’s still super tasty and totally worth saving for another time.

  • Freeze in portions for up to 3 months in freezer-safe containers or bags.

  • Let cool completely before freezing to avoid ice crystals.

💡 Freezer Tip: Label containers with the date and reheating instructions so you’re ready to go.

🔥 Reheating Tips

You’ve got a few options, depending on your schedule:

Microwave:

  • Add a splash of milk or broth to loosen the sauce.

  • Cover loosely and microwave for 1–2 minutes, stirring halfway through.

Stovetop:

  • Reheat gently over low heat with a splash of milk.

  • Stir frequently until hot and creamy again.

Oven:

  • Place in an oven-safe dish, cover with foil, and bake at 325°F for 15–20 minutes.

  • Uncover for the last few minutes for slightly crispy edges.

💡 Avoid overheating or cooking too long during reheating—just warm until heated through to keep everything tender and saucy.

❌ Common Mistakes to Avoid

Even though this Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta is super beginner-friendly, there are a few easy-to-miss details that can throw things off. But don’t worry—I’ve made the mistakes so you don’t have to! Here’s what to watch for:

1. Overcooking the Chicken

Yes, the crockpot is meant to make life easier, but it can overcook your chicken if you forget about it. Stick to 3–4 hours on LOW or 2–3 hours on HIGH for the juiciest, shreddable chicken. Going much longer can dry it out—even in a creamy sauce.

2. Adding Uncooked Pasta to the Crockpot

Trust me, it’s tempting to dump the pasta straight in and skip boiling it separately—but don’t! Uncooked pasta will soak up too much liquid and turn the sauce gloopy or dry. For the best texture, cook pasta separately and stir it in right before serving.

3. Using Cold Cream Cheese Straight from the Fridge

Cold cream cheese doesn’t melt easily, especially in a slow cooker. To avoid chunks, let your cream cheese soften at room temperature first. Or cube it up before adding so it melts evenly.

4. Forgetting to Shake the Sauce Bottle with Milk

It might seem like a silly extra step, but shaking the milk in the empty Parmesan Garlic Sauce bottle gets every last drop of that flavorful sauce into your crockpot. Waste not!

5. Using the Wrong Pasta-to-Sauce Ratio

If you add too much pasta, your sauce will get lost. Stick to 12–16 oz of pasta max, and if you like it extra saucy, go on the lighter side.

6. Not Tasting Before Serving

Even with a flavorful sauce, the final dish might need a pinch more salt or a shake of red pepper flakes to wake it up. Always taste before serving and adjust as needed.

🔥 Pro Tips for the BEST Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta

Okay, now that we’ve covered what not to do, let’s talk about how to take this dish from tasty to totally next level. These are my go-to tips for creamy, dreamy success every single time:

1. Use Chicken Thighs for Extra Tenderness

Chicken breasts are great, but boneless, skinless thighs stay ultra juicy and tender after long, slow cooking. Plus, they shred like a dream!

2. Toss in Veggies for a One-Pot Meal

Near the end of the cook time, stir in a few handfuls of baby spinach, steamed broccoli, or even frozen peas. Not only does it add color and texture—it makes dinner more balanced without any extra effort.

3. Reserve Some Pasta Water

When you drain the pasta, save about ½ cup of the starchy cooking water. If your sauce feels too thick after mixing in the pasta, a splash of this liquid helps loosen it up while keeping that luscious texture.

4. Go Big on the Garnish

A sprinkle of fresh parsley, more grated parmesan, and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes really makes this dish pop. If you’re feeling extra, a drizzle of olive oil or a squeeze of lemon brightens everything up beautifully.

5. Make It Ahead (Meal Prep Win!)

You can absolutely make this dish ahead of time. Just store the chicken and sauce separately from the pasta, then mix them together when reheating for best texture. Add a splash of milk or broth when reheating to revive that silky creaminess.

6. Double It and Freeze Half

If your slow cooker has the space, double the recipe and freeze half for an easy dinner down the road. It freezes really well—just make sure it’s completely cooled before storing in freezer-safe containers.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

You’ve got questions—I’ve got answers! Here’s everything you need to know before diving into this cozy, creamy crockpot favorite.

Can I use a different sauce besides Buffalo Wild Wings Parmesan Garlic?

Absolutely! If you can’t find the original, you can use a homemade or store-brand Parmesan Garlic Sauce. Some readers have even used Alfredo sauce as a base and added garlic powder + Italian seasoning.

Can I use frozen chicken?

Yes, but it’s safer and more effective to thaw the chicken first. Slow cookers take too long to bring frozen meat to a safe temperature, which can risk foodborne illness. For best results, use fully thawed chicken.

Is there a stovetop version of this recipe?

Totally! Use pre-cooked or rotisserie chicken. Simmer the sauce ingredients in a large skillet or pot, toss in the chicken, then stir in cooked pasta. Done in under 30 minutes and just as delicious.

How can I make this dairy-free?

You can swap the cream cheese for a plant-based version (like Tofutti or Kite Hill) and use unsweetened dairy-free milk (oat or almond). For the parmesan, go with nutritional yeast or a dairy-free cheese alternative.

Can I freeze leftovers?

Yes! Let the pasta cool completely, then freeze in single-serve containers for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, reheat in the microwave or oven with a splash of milk to bring the creaminess back.

What kind of pasta works best?

Rotini, penne, and shells all hold the sauce well, but honestly, any short pasta works here. Even elbow macaroni or bowties. Just avoid spaghetti or noodles that won’t catch the sauce as well.

Can I make this low-carb?

You bet! Skip the pasta and serve the creamy chicken over zoodles, cauliflower rice, or sautéed spinach for a low-carb version that still hits all the comfort food notes.

Can I cook the pasta in the slow cooker?

Technically yes, but it can get mushy and soak up too much sauce. For the best results, boil pasta separately and stir it in at the end.

How do I store and reheat leftovers?

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven with a splash of milk. You can also freeze portions for quick future meals!
